What is a Teaser Bet, And How To Place A Teaser Bet?

Many will be generally aware of ‘the line’, which is the market price for a sporting event. But the idea of a line doesn’t really represent well how betting markets work. Lines are volatile, they tend to move over time, and also a bettor can buy (or sell) points from the sportsbook. A way to do so is with a teaser bet. But what is a Teaser bet? How do they work? Read below to find it out.

What is A Teaser Bet?

A teaser bet requires an exchange of points for volume. The bettor will buy some number of points and, in return, must parlay two or more selections. Similarly to a parlay bet, all the legs of a teaser bet must win for the bet to win. Usually, teaser bets involve two teams, but some sports betting sites allow up to 10 bets in a teaser. It might sound not very easy, but it is not. Let’s have a quick example. In the last Super Bowl the consensus market would be Kansas City Chiefs -3 with an over/under like of 54.5. With a teaser bet, you can get the Chiefs +3 and the Under 48.5. In this example, the Under came in since it was 40 while the Chiefs fell short as they were hammered 31-9. So, in this case, the teaser lost, as there was one selection that lost.

Should you use Teaser Bets?

As with most things related to wagering, it really ‘depends’. In some circumstances, teasers bets are not a good option for the bettor. They are challenging to win as similarly to parlays bets, you need all the selections to be correct, so the margin is in the sports betting site favour. However, if you are convinced that there is value in some of the lines, you should consider placing a Teaser bet, which will allow you bigger returns of a single bet, if you are correct.

What are Reverse Teasers?

Usually, if a sportsbook allows you to buy points, then you can also sell points. A parlay bet with two selections, or more in which you ‘sell’ six points to the sportsbook is known as ‘reverse teaser’ or a ‘pleaser’. Maybe the name reflects the fact that if you manage to win one of those, you will receive a big payout. As you can understand, hitting pleasers is very difficult, this is why they pay so much. Strategically speaking, if the market is very sharp like in the NFL, the handicap will probably be accurate. This is why it is advisable to consider college football or basketball as you are more likely to profit with pleasers.

What will happen to my teaser be if a leg pushes?

Most sports betting sites in New Jersey treat teasers like parlays. This means that they simply drop off a push or cancelled match and will consider the teaser with one fewer leg. This is not always the same, though, as some sportsbooks cancel a two-teamer if one of the legs pushes and the other wins. To make sure you fully understand all the different circumstances, we suggest you check the sportsbook’s terms and conditions for the relevant policy to avoid surprises.
